Hartwell, Delaware—the perfect place to get away from it all, and find what you never knew you needed…Bailey Hartwell has many reasons to feel content—her successful business, a close circle of friends, and her steady boyfriend…even if their romance feels staid after ten years without a serious commitment. The only challenge in her life comes in the form of sexy businessman Vaughn Tremaine. She thinks the ex-New Yorker acts superior and that he considers her a small-town nobody. But when Bailey’s blindsided by a betrayal, she’s shocked to discover Vaughn is actually a decent guy.Vaughn admires Bailey’s free spirit, independence, and loyalty. As his passion for her has grown, his antagonism toward her has only worsened. Every little thing Bailey does seduces him. But when Vaughn’s painful emotional past makes him walk away in fear he will hurt her, it opens an old wound in Bailey, and she uncharacteristically retreats.Once Vaughn begins to realize he’s made the biggest mistake of his life, he has no choice but to fight like he’s never fought before to convince Bailey that the love they’ve found together only comes around once in a lifetime.
I went into Every Little Thing rather blind by not reading the first book in the Hart's Boardwalk series. That being said, this can be read as a standalone novel, though I'd have enjoyed getting the entire background of the town and cast of characters. Obviously our two main characters, Bailey and Vaughn are introduced in that first book, or rather their rather tumultuous hatred for each other... An enemies-to-lovers romance, Every Little Thing captivated both romance, friendship, family, and coastal small town quaintness.
Vaughn Tremaine is a wealthy hotelier in small town Hartwell, Delaware. Having built one of the few newer construction buildings within the city limits was a feat within itself, especially coming up again the Princess of Hartwell, Bailey Hartwell. Her family owns the quaint inn on the boardwalk and their start was rocky at best. She hated Vaughn, the wolf in Armani, and all his arrogance and money but his hotel was built nonetheless. Ah, but still no love-loss between them.
“Just because you can be a bitch, Bailey, doesn’t mean you’re not an interesting one.”
“I’m only a bitch to people who are assholes.” She downed the rest of her wine. She didn’t ask for more, however. Instead she placed the glass out of her way and leaned back on the palms of her hands."As always you flatter me.”“Why are you an asshole, Tremaine?”
I love that push and pull angsty feeling of an enemies-to-lovers trope. Bailey is all town sweetheart, quick to lend a hand or volunteer for charities. Vaughn, on the other hand, is more uptight, aloof- a stick prominently shoved up his arse on most occasions. But with all their banter, the chemistry between the two of them is palpable. And once Bailey is back on the market, Vaughn finds himself interested. If only he did relationships. He does not...
An enjoyable, easy-reading romance, Every Little Thing has piqued my interest for the entire cast of characters in the Hart's Boardwalk series. It's a town full of loyalty, pride, and gossip. And I can't wait to see who falls in love next...
